Fifty Shades of Ugh

I, like many others, am less than excited that Fifty Shades of Grey is being made into a movie. Since when has porn become a public sensation? Aren’t we trying to make efforts to stop sex trafficking? Houston especially. That’s not even my biggest issue with it, though. It’s the fact that relationships are going to take a turn for the worst.

People are going to think that BDSM relationships involve the dominant person controlling the other’s every waking hour. They’ll think that ignoring the safe word is the cool thing to do. They’ll think that domestic violence means that he loves you.

This book basically glamorizes violence against women and it’s accepted as good literature by the general public.

It’s almost as if the author didn’t even bother to read the Wikipedia page on BDSM before writing these novels.

I honestly can’t give a full review other than what I’ve read from other reviews, but I did manage to make it through the first three chapters of the book. I also have the Twilight series under my belt, too. I definitely got the “Edward” and “Bella” vibe from each of their respective characters. Not to mention the similar horrendous writing styles.

Yeah, I just so happened to be in the aimed age demographic when Twilight was first getting popular. Sue me. I was 14.

I was also furious at the fact that it was being called the next Harry Potter.

Mind you, Edward and Bella’s relationship is already considered abusive by many different people who have studied the Twilight series.

Watching her sleep outside her window without her even knowing? Creepy much? This kind of behavior is unacceptable regardless of how attractive the guy is.

Ever notice how even in The Notebook, he relentlessly asks her out and resorts to hanging off the side of a Ferris wheel, basically FORCING her to say yes or have his blood on her hands. Guys do stuff like this all the time. Asking girls out over and over again, taking their no for “try again later” or “try something different”.

Many times, people take the “try something different” as “Hey, go out with me or I’m going to literally stab you in the throat”.

I’m not even kidding. Here’s a link to what happened.

Also there’s the whole issue with the blatant Stockholm syndrome that’s the basis of the musical, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. I really wanted to like that movie, too…

I’m just sickened by all of this garbage that is being regurgitated by the media. Women are once again being degraded as playthings to billionaires that throw their money around like Gatsby’s shirts.

I will definitely not be attending any sort of viewing of this softcore mommy porn that’s being paraded as the next big thing.
